Additional Inscriptions

Your family may already own a memorial, on which you need an additional inscription to commemorate another member of the family.

The original inscription on your family's memorial may have been cut by a mason some 20, 30, or more years ago. You will, of course, want the lettering style of the new, additional inscription to match the individual style of the original.

Our masons are well-used to this. Their expert eyes and equally expert hands can easily match the lettering which was done by the original mason.

That's something which is impossible for a machine to accomplish. To match the lettering style of the original, you will need a craftsman ... not a machine.

All the masons at WL Cookson Ltd are master craftsmen. Proper, personal letter-cutting is what the master masons at WL Cookson Ltd do best.

These photographs show our addition of two inscriptions to a stone and how our mason Bobbie Johnstone has matched his lettering to that of the original mason in 1961 and that of the mason who did the subsequent inscription in 1977

Adding the inscription to Elsie May Lightowler ...

... and the insciption to Edith Parkinson

The finished memorial, in Marton Cemetery

Footnote : David Cookson, the Managing Director of WL Cookson Ltd, says this : "I can remember John and Edith Parkinson well from my days as a choirboy at Marton St Paul's in the 1960s. John was the verger at the church and Edith sang in the choir. I also recall Edith's mother, Mrs Lightowler, who sat every Sunday in the congregation. Edith and Mrs Lightowler were as alike as two peas in a pod."
